March Newsletter
March, 2011
Springtime Greetings!

Yea!, Spring has finally sprung; March 20th at 4:10pm was the actual equinox, I was told.  And, Grandmother Moon
was closer to the Earth than she has been for 18 years (and won’t be that close for another 18 years), on March 19th
at about 11:40am.  I was hosting the Mt. Rainier (T ‘Swaq’) site for the PNW Medicine Wheel Ceremony that
weekend and to my joy and surprise we had two different women bring the ceremony drums they are entrusted with.
Saturday, Yana brought her Grandmother drum and we sat around it drumming and singing.  Sunday, Mary brought
Buffalo Heart, or as she would say, Buffalo Heart brought her, to our site and we sang and drummed for hours. Mary
never stopped drumming; she held beautiful space, along with her husband, Jim.
I co-hosted the site with new friends Rebecca and Stephen.  We started a Sacred Fire at sunrise on the 19th and
kept it going until after the sunrise ceremony on the 21st.  During that period we did a water blessing down at
Mineral Lake and drummed, prayed, sang and made offerings throughout the day and night.  We also created a
Medicine Wheel from many sacred stones, gems, personal belongs and things of nature; it was a beautiful sight!
Friends, Sheila and Cindy helped with the creating of the Wheel and Fire.  This same type of event was happening
simultaneously at seven other sites, plus the main one was in Olympia.  The vision (lead by Blue Thunder) was to
create a wheel around the hub which was Olympia, and hold ceremony for three days and nights to help heal this
area and re-align the energy meridians.  Samples of soil, water and plant life were taken before and after the 3 days.
Some of the water samples are being sent to Dr. Emoto for comparison.  Dr. Emoto is the author of several books
explaining and showing through photographs the effects of sounds, thoughts and actions on water.  You can go to
Amazon and type in his name to see his work.
After closing ceremony at our site, we packed up and all met in Olympia for the last day of ceremony.  When I
arrived there were 3 stallions standing around the site (I almost drove off the road staring at them before I parked).
They were there for a horse ceremony and after being painted and feathers tied to their manes, we sang and
drummed to them and then they were walked all the way around the inlet; the two white ones went one way and the
black one went the other way.  It was something to witness.  All in all, I was happy I chose to be a part in the
weekend; it was beautiful and powerful, honoring all traditions, religions, and beliefs, hoping to bring them together
in similarities rather than differences.  The folks that organized the event plan on doing it again on the Summer
Solstice; perhaps you would like to join in. The website is

Spring, the East Direction
We made it through Winter; the time of reflection, rejuvenation, planning, and being within.  Now it’s Spring and we
get to plant and nurture all those seeds of flowers, food, ideas, hopes and dreams.  Spring brings the energy of the
young, it represents new beginnings, just like the rising of Grandfather Sun, in the East, marks the beginning of a
new day.  As you go out into nature, whether it be your own yard and gardens, a walk along the beach, or a hike into
the mountains, look around at all the new buds and sprouts, listen to the return of the birds and frogs, smell the
freshness of the air and feel how even though it isn’t what I would call warm, there is a warming trend in the days.
This is all emerging energy and the hope and promise of abundance.  Are you carrying the knowingness of
abundance?  In times when we aren’t able to have all that we want or are used to, it can be easier to dwell on
scarcity.  In the big picture, in Life with a capital “L” abundance still flows; try counting all the buds on all the
trees!  Go outside with a grateful abundant heart and know that in all of those buds, birds and frogs is abundance,
and rest yourself there.
With all that Spring brings forth, with all that new energy, take care not to take on too much!  It can become so
overwhelming that all the joy is taken out of the tasks at hand.  Remember we talked about keeping promises to
ourselves?  This is a good way to stay on task without the guilt.  What can you realistically do in a day? Realistically!
So you can go to bed and smile because you were able to accomplish the day you planned.  This too is about building
relationship; a loving, caring and accountable relationship with yourself will lead to the same type of relationships
you hold outside of yourself.
SPRING!  A time to open your windows (and turn up your heater if you have to) and bring in new fresh air,
while sweeping out the old and stagnant.  You can move that old energy out with smudging or sound; hit all the
corners and under the beds!  See how good it feels to have a clean fresh home.  Most of all enjoy this beautiful time
of year, whether planting gardens, Spring cleaning, or preparing for outdoor activities, see, hear, smell, taste, and
feel the abundance and know you are the co-creator of your existence.  What do you want that to be?

The Crow Dance

I went for a walk up Mt. Peak yesterday and as usual my brain was chatting away.  I often have profound
conversations with myself on that foothill!  However, that day I just wanted to be in my body and be walking up
Peak.  As I looked around and listened I began to see things I wanted to paint (there I went again!).  I really want to
paint Crow and so I asked that when I got to the top if I could see some crows in flight, it would be great! Then I
went back to not thinking.  Well, as I got close to the top where I sit and ponder, I heard Crow calling.  I look up and
there is this beautiful battered crow playing in the wind currents.  He had feathers missing and looked like he could
tell you some stories, but there he was, in all his glory floating and diving and shooting straight up into the air.  I
came out of the trees and stood in the opening and he stayed with me, floating right above me, looking down at me
as if to say, “Here we are and what we look like in flight, will you paint me as I am, battered and weathered?”  He
continued to play for awhile and then another crow came and they danced together in free falls and spirals, wing to
wing and body to body.  When they finished Crow came back to me and floated overhead again, and I answered,
“Yes, I will paint you just as you are.”  And he was gone.

Love and Respect Yourself, no matter where you are;
be it at home, with friends, family or in the work place.  I’m going to speak of the workplace today.  With all that is
going on in our nation right now it can be easy to allow ourselves to be taken advantage of and disrespected in the
workplace, in order to “keep” our job.  I have had many conversations lately with people who are sad and angry with
their employers/employment.  Some don’t make a lot of money, so do: some are experiencing cut-backs and many
are being asked to do more and more work—with or without added compensation, it doesn’t really matter.  What
does matter is their personal lives are of no significance to management/the company/the boss…  and it is feeling
like job/money/security/and all that we place on our “job” is being held over our head in order to make us tow the
line.  It’s true that there are more job seekers than jobs right now.  It is also true that we make agreements as to
what we will do in return for a paycheck.  I believe it is important to re-examine that agreement from time to time
in order to make sure it is still in balance.  Yes, we are paid by the employer, and don’t forget you are giving them
something of value in return. You give them your time, energy, knowledge, skill and commitment.  That is worth a
lot!  And so is the balance between work and family, friends, rest and serenity.  Be good to yourself.

Worm Reiki!?
Yes worm Reiki.  Walking up Mt. Peak one day this month, I ran across a very cold looking worm just lying there in
the trail in front of me.  I picked it up and thought it looked like it could use some Reiki, so I began.  It started
squirming around and I asked, "Do you have a message for me Grandmother Worm?" I stopped and closed my eyes
for a bit before hearing, "I sure do! Turn your garbage into something useful!" and she died!  All righty then.  I
must admit I had been wallowing in self-doubt and fear for awhile and I had to take that message as a kick in the
butt to get out of myself and be of service. Thank you for the reminder sweet Worm.

“… Here on the rim of the Great Medicine Wheel, mandala of the world, whose center is everywhere and circumference
nowhere, we sound our horn, we send our voice, we cry our being’s whole desire, or as Tsaviaya advised, “sit down where
you are and set up a squawk. The Grandfathers hear. But you must ask.”  If we ask aright, with integrity and total
commitment, the way will be revealed, step by gentle step. So it is for me, so it is for you, so it is for everyone.
