July and August Newsletter 2011
Greetings!
Summer keeps me busy and outside as much as possible, therefore this newsletter encompasses July and
August, our two main Summer months. I have had many animal encounters this Summer, a few I write
about in the below articles, but beyond those there have been Eagle, Elk, Heron, Hawk, Rattle Snake,
Frog, Hummers abound, so so many; it’s a wonder we ever feel lonely.
I’m grateful to be eating out of our gardens at last! Fresh veggies and fruit are so much better than what I
inevitably get used to from the store during the winter, I say every year, “How do we eat that stuff?”
Enjoy the plentitude of Summer, the foods, the Sun, the playtime and long days.
Summer; the South Direction
We are still facing South on the Medicine Wheel; as a reminder, the South is a place of rapid growth
and learning. It is where we take in all the information we learn from Life, whether it be from classes, the
TV or radio, friends, family.. wanted or otherwise. We store it up until we can take time to know what is
True for us and what doesn’t sing for us. It is also the season to relearn childlike trust, faith and
playfulness. What I’ve noticed is this isn’t about being naïve, but more about being present in the
moment. Snake and Coyote are two guardians of the South/Summer, and they have shown up in my
world. I see snakes every time I climb Peak. There is a spot that looks out at Mt. Rainier (to the South,
ironically) and there are many snakes that live there, but I also see them as I climb. Some are pretty
good size for a garter snake. Some have a blue stripe, others have grey or brown or red. There was one
the other day that had apparently just eaten; it was about as big around as my thumb, and in the middle
was a mouse-sized lump. I had to laugh at it because it could hardly wiggle away. And Coyote has been
visiting for the last several days. An adorable pup comes out into the pasture hunting for mice. It has
comically huge ears and a way of moving that reminds me to relax and play, even at work.
Owl Encounter
Driving home late one night a few weeks back, I was on a dark back road, and off to the right on the
shoulder, was this white thing. The closer I got I could see it was a large Snowy Owl standing on the
shoulder of the road. I slowed as I drove by and when I was even with Owl, he/she spread its wings. I
thought it would fly over the top of my car but instead, WHAM! It hit my passenger door! I stopped and
turned around and searched the road and ditches; I even went back in the daylight to check again, but
nothing. Although I was relieved it was ok, I had to wonder what that was all about. Owls are messengers
and can aid in powerful intuition. I’m sure time will continue to explain this visit.

As we walk through Life we will grow in ways unimaginable, especially if we allow Life to teach us. If you
find yourself feeling stuck, you are; letting go of the past, of resentment, guilt, shame, anger, and fear is
essential to the continued movement of growth and healing. Take the time you need to take care of
yourself, to love yourself and to understand who you really are. There’s nobody out there quite like you
and the world needs your authentic Self. With Love, Peggy
