StillPoint Reiki
and Shamanic Healing
January Newsletter, 2012
Hello,
It’s another frosty morning here in Western Washington. I sat up on my little balcony praying
with Pipe and watching a spectacular Sun rising to light the day. I was asking for help with
envisioning the coming year; what am I to do and how should I do it? Thoughts of gardening
and farming came to mind, harvesting our own food as much as possible. I’ve been thinking
about having a few chickens for eggs and raising some turkeys as well. I also want to plant
vegetables in a series of plantings so there is a smaller but continuous crop, rather than it all
coming at once. We got a freezer recently and I want to fill it with as much as possible! I’m
planning on increasing my medicinal plants to include Skullcap, more Echinacea, and I would
like to try my hand at Golden Seal. I also received thoughts about continuing to teach and work
with clients. There are times when I wonder if I want to continue this practice; as with most of
us, staying motivated and inspired is a part of staying with something-anything really. And, I
don’t really picture myself doing anything else with the same desire, knowing and need. One of
the most important messages I continue to hear, from clients, friends, family, students and
Spirit, is the importance of knowing and loving yourself. Many of us are raised to believe that
self-love is selfishness or arrogance. Self- love is often equated to self-importance, vanity, greed,
neediness, self-centeredness, and so forth. In reality, self-love is the life long process of learning
about who you are and how you operate in the world around you, and accepting yourself 100%,
the parts you like and the pieces that are not so desirable. It’s giving yourself a break when you
mess up; it’s laughing at your humanness! It’s also taking those undesirables that no longer work
for you and finding new ways of being, all the while, being encouraging, supportive and loving
to yourself. Whew, not an easy transformation. Why is this so important? Because, in doing so,
you will shift your perception of Life from one of judgment, disappointment and failure, into
one of curiosity, discovery and understanding. And, as you change, those around you will shift;
your children will have a role model in becoming confident self-loving individuals, who take
responsibility for their lives, words and actions and so can end pointing fingers, blaming and
judging others. Through discovering our-selves we will learn what we like doing, who we like
being, and how we go about- or not- bringing the life we want to live, to us. By completely
understanding that we have greatly contributed to where we are right now, we see that we can
bring more of what we want, to us, ending jealousy, envy, the need to control and be the center
of attention. This does not mean we all become namby-pamby! It means we come to see who
and how we are; knowing these things, we choose what we want to keep and what we want to
change, without labels of “good” or “bad” attached to them. If we like being recluse for
example, then continue to be so. If being recluse results in loneliness and sadness, then it is no
longer a positive in your life- and you can change that. In this world of technology, social
networking, busy-ness and stress, we need, more than ever, to slow down our bodies and
minds; we need to connect with ourselves, nature, and others (not on Facebook, but face to
face). There are many ways to do this work and finding one that suits you is the first step. Well,
I didn’t know I had so much to say about this; I could go on for a few dozen more pages. But I
won’t, not here.
So, for me, I am going to plot out my gardens and read up on chicken and turkey husbandry! I
have a few classes scheduled and will be working on designing others. Maybe too, I will write
more about the “Importance of You!”
Our New Cat, “Little Bit”
As you know, Mr. Arbuckle passed on last August. Well sometime late in November Brad
started hearing a cat meowing at night out in our garden. I didn’t pay it much mind because we
have a couple of ferals that sneak around at night to clean out the food dishes. However, one
Sunday I was out filling the bird feeders and I heard a meow from under the deck. It wasn’t our
neighbor cat, because she was weaving in and out of my feet. I went in and got some canned
food and tried to coax the cat from under the deck. Finally it poked its head out and to my
astonishment, it looked like Arbuckle!!!!! “Brad!!! Come look!” Anyhoo, check out his
picture. I thought he was a she… and pregnant. My bad, he’s a fixed male. I never claimed to
be a cat sexer. We gave him a few different names, but Little Bit seems to be the one that’s
sticking. I just think it’s amazing that it wasn’t until after Arbuckle left us, that another one
came along and chose to call us home.

May you all have a peaceful Winter planning for the coming Spring. May you find a balance of
snuggling and getting out in the fresh brisk air, of sleeping in during rainy Sundays and getting up
early to watch Grandfather Sun color the sky. Take good care. Blessings, Peggy
“There seems to be but three ways for a nation to acquire wealth. The first is by war, as the
Romans did in plundering their conquered neighbors. This is robbery. The second is by
commerce, which is generally cheating. The third is by agriculture, the only honest way;
wherein man receives a real increase of the seed thrown into the ground in a kind of
continual miracle.” Benjamin Franklin
