A Holy COW Reiki Story
August 2, 2009
Last week a baby robin came into my care and I have been buying and feeding worms, cleaning up poop and
running reiki on him/her ever since. This morning at sunrise I brought him out onto the deck; he's been out
there several times, but hasn't been ready to leave yet. Brad joined me and we put him on the ground to start
picking around. Eventually he went over to where we feed the birds and started chasing finches around,
looking for a hand-out. They didn't want any part of it, so he would come back to us, get a worm and head out
exploring a bit. After a while we put him up into a tree; wow, he thought this was cool!
We heard the neighbor's cows mooing up a storm, especially one, so we walked across the street in our
jammies and bare feet to check it out, because our neighbors were out of town. When we got closer to where
all the cows were clustered, we heard thrashing and splashing in the woods. Brad remembered there was an
old well in the area, so we ran home to get shoes on so we could investigate.
Upon our return, we found that one of the calves had fallen into the old well and could not get out. It was
completely submerged in water with only its face sticking out; it was exhausted. We went back and got a
chainsaw and rope; Brad went to cut the root system that covered the well, while I went to get some help.
When I got back with Rick, a friend, the three of us were able to hoist the little guy out. He collapsed on the
ground unable to move. He was cold to the touch, shivering and appeared to be in shock, to some extent
anyway; even his breath was freezing cold. By then Rick's wife showed up as did another friend, who is a
dairy farmer. We were all gathered around the calf discussing what we should do next.
While everyone chatted, I started running reiki on the calf; as soon as I did my dog Nakita, came next to me
and started licking the calf like it was a new born pup! She would not stop, even when the calf started
thrashing around trying to get up, Nakita stayed right by him and licked him all over. I recently attuned Nakita
in reiki at level two. She was really sensitive to reiki and once when she was lost a group of us sent her reiki,
which she didn't like at all! Rose, my reiki teacher/mentor, ended up making it available to her at her own pace,
which she seemed to accept a little better. A couple of weeks later, I ended up attuning her and now here she
was helping this little calf.
I ended up trying to attune the calf in the midst of all the discussion about what to do next. Bless the Reiki
Helpers because it was difficult to concentrate and I'm not sure I was all that successful. However, by the end
I just stated it was my intention to attune this little guy and even if it wasn't perfect, at least help him please!
His breath was getting warmer. The calf, Nakita and myself were all checking in with each other by touching
noses. First, Nakita came up to me and touched my nose and looked into my eyes, saying, "we're doing good
mom!" After that the calf reached out and touched my nose too, and then the two of them touched! It was
really something to be a part of.
It was decided that we would move the calf by row boat to the other side of the pond and then by tractor to a
safe place. Throughout this procedure Nakita continued to follow and lick the calf whenever possible. Once we
placed him out in the pasture, the whole herd of cows came running over and surrounded the calf, touching it
with their noses and licking it (probably the cleanest calf in Enumclaw with all this licking!). Eventually the calf
was up and wobbling around, then walking and very soon, running!
We all hugged and felt so good! You should have seen the look of gratitude on momma's face; I could hear her
saying thank you so very much for saving my baby. I told her, it was her who had saved her baby-good job
momma.
We checked on the calf later and it was nursing up a storm and then slept for a really long time.
As for the baby robin, it is now living outside but still hanging around getting worms from us. As soon as its
tail and wing feathers finish growing, I plan to take him to Mt. Peak for release; that is if he doesn't go there
himself. He is flying better every day, but I will be glad when he is safely on his own.
Both babies benefited from the beautiful energy of reiki; I am so grateful to have gone and been attuned. I have
a feeling the endless ways to use it has only just begun.
